Surveys of the built environment, whether at the individual, neighborhood or landscape level. These include architectural studies, s.106 surveys & effects assessments, along with mitigation reports and documentation projects.

A building that is listed, or is eligible to be listed, in the National Register of Historic Places, may qualify for federal and state historic rehab tax credits. These credits can total up to 45% of the costs of your rehab project.

General historical research for a location. This includes digging into land deeds, census records, historical maps, newspapers (amongst others) and sourcing local oral histories to develop the full story of a place.

The National Register of Historic Places is the nation's official list of cultural resources, 50 years or older, that have been deemed worthy of preservation. Providing little in the way of formal protection to buildings, inclusion in this list provides a level of prestige and recognition for historically significant places. 

Proof of concept assessments that help determine the economic feasibility of rehabilitating an historic building for contemporary use.

These are often best carried out in advance of a potential historic tax credit application.

Working with property owners  and community organizations to establish historic markers that provide important interpretation and context for historic sites at both the state and local level. 

Training sessions on preservation-related topics to elected officials, local business leaders and other community organizations. These include sessions on historic rehabilitation tax credits, how preservation can revitalize downtown and mainstreet, developing design review guidelines and other education initiatives.

Hands-on advice about the more practical aspects of old buildings. This includes questions about the restoration of historic wood sash windows, the composition of historic mortar, appropriate materials for rehabilitation projects, and historical construction techniques. We partner with a number of local historic trades organizations.
